Stotra
Stotras, stutis and ashtakams — with meaning.
A stotra is a verse composition in praise of a revered figure. The Jain tradition holds a long line of them — from the Bhaktamar and the Kalyanamandir to the works of individual acharyas. Most are in Sanskrit or Prakrit and are composed in strict metre, which is what allowed them to be carried in memory.
An ashtaka is a stotra of eight verses; a stuti is usually shorter. All three forms are collected here, and every verse is given with its Hindi meaning — recitation is only complete when the sense travels with it.
Where the author is known, the name is given; where a work has come down through the tradition without attribution, it is recorded as such.
